About Meall Garbh

Meall Garbh forms the north-eastern end of the Ben Lawers range together with Meall Greigh, in the hills between Glen Lyon and Loch Tay. Its craggy southern face looks down on Lochan nan Cat.

The summit is hidden from the A827 along Loch Tay, so the hill gives little away from the road. Walkers often take it with Meall Greigh, and it can also be worked into a longer traverse of the Lawers ridge taking in four further Munros and ending at the National Trust for Scotland visitor centre.

The Meall Garbh group

One other listed summit sits in the same prominence group, with Meall Garbh as the independent hill at its head.

Listed summits in the Meall Garbh prominence group
SummitHeightDrop
An Stuc 1,117 m 126 m

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
