About Stob Coire Easain

Stob Coire Easain is the highest point of a nine-kilometre ridge running the full length of the western side of Loch Treig, 18 km east of Fort William. The ridge's eastern flank falls very steeply to the loch.

It is paired with Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin, a kilometre away across a col of roughly 965 metres; together the two are known as the Easains or the Stob Corries, with the north-west-facing Coire Easain Beag between them. Valleys hem the pair in on three sides, and the resulting prominence of 611 metres is substantial. The name translates as peak of the corrie of the little waterfall. A different Stob Coire Easain exists as a Munro Top on Stob Coire an Laoigh.

The Stob Coire Easain group

One other listed summit sits in the same prominence group, with Stob Coire Easain as the independent hill at its head.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
