Stob Ban

About Stob Ban

This Stob Ban lies 16 kilometres east of Fort William in Lochaber, one of four Munros in the Grey Corries, a group that also holds nine Munro Tops along an eight-kilometre ridge. It should not be muddled with the Munro of the same name in the Mamores.

The name translates as white peak, or light-coloured peak: the hill is covered in pale schist scree, unlike the grey quartzite of the rest of the group. It is a distinctly conical mountain, set apart from its neighbours and well away from any main road.

Standing south of the main Grey Corries ridge, it links to Stob Choire Claurigh, the group's high point, by an unnamed 800-metre col holding a small unnamed lochan. Three ridges give the cone its shape; the northeastern one drops to the Allt na Lairige, which runs south into Loch Treig.
