About Pap of Glencoe

The Pap of Glencoe, in Gaelic Sgorr na Cìche, rises on the north side of Glen Coe at the western end of the Aonach Eagach ridge, standing directly above the point where the River Coe reaches Loch Leven. Its conical outline, most pronounced from the west, gave it the name, and it forms part of the familiar view into the entrance of the glen.

Ascents typically begin from the unclassified road between Glencoe village and the Clachaig Inn, where a pebble path leaves the road about a kilometre west of the youth hostel and climbs past a white house towards the bealach between the Pap and Sgor nam Fiannaidh. The section up to the bealach follows a small gully and is often very muddy. The last 100 m of ascent involve some scrambling, and conditions change in winter.
