Cyfrwy

About Cyfrwy

Cyfrwy is a subsidiary summit of Cadair Idris, immediately to its west in Eryri. Many walkers take it in alongside Cadair Idris using the Pony Path.

The top is bare rock with a cairn. Large cliffs fall from the north and east faces, and these hold the Cyfrwy Arete, a very steep rock climb or extreme scramble calling for rope and rock climbing skills. Tyrrau Mawr and Craig-y-llyn lie west, Craig Cwm Amarch south.

Cyfrwy is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Cadair Idris - Penygadair (893 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 780 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
