About Blabheinn

Bla Bheinn, also written Blabheinn or Blaven, stands on Skye as an outlier of the Black Cuillin rather than part of the main ridge, and at 929 metres it is a Munro. It is built largely of gabbro, a rock that gives excellent grip to scramblers and mountaineers.

North of the summit runs the ridge of Clach Glas, continuing to Garbh-bheinn (808 m) and Sgurr nan Each (720 m). The name is generally read as 'blue mountain', a Norse and Gaelic compound - though Old Norse bla could cover blue-black and black as well as blue. Walkers normally come at it from the east.
