About Blabheinn South Top

Blabheinn South Top is a 926.6-metre Munro Top of Blà Bheinn, a mountain on the Isle of Skye also known as Blaven and usually treated as an outlier of the Black Cuillin range. The parent is a 929-metre Munro built mainly of gabbro, a rock offering excellent grip to mountaineers and scramblers.

North of Blà Bheinn's summit runs the ridge of Clach Glas, leading on to the peaks of Garbh-bheinn and Sgùrr nan Each. The name Blà Bheinn is thought to combine Norse and Gaelic elements meaning 'blue mountain', though the Old Norse blá could also denote blue-black or black. Walkers normally ascend the mountain from the east.

Which hill this one belongs to

Blabheinn South Top is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Blabheinn (929 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 898 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
