About Beacon Fell

Beacon Fell belongs to the Blawith Fells, west of the foot of Coniston Water, and reaches 255 metres above Beacon Tarn. Quiet paths off the Water Yeat to Torver road give access.

Wainwright's chapter in The Outlying Fells of Lakeland climbs from Brown Howe, crosses the summit, drops to Beacon Tarn and returns along the western slopes on the line of the Cumbria Way. For its modest height the outlook is wide, taking in the Coniston Fells, Coniston Water and Morecambe Bay.

Structurally, the Beacon Tarn fault runs beneath the eastern side of the tarn on a bearing of roughly N 10 degrees E, part of the wider Coniston Fault complex.
