About Axe Edge Moor
Axe Edge Moor is the major moorland south-west of Buxton in the Peak District, its highest point reaching 551 metres — slightly lower than Shining Tor, some five kilometres to the north-west across the shallow dip of the nascent Goyt Valley. The moor is mainly gritstone, of Namurian shale and sandstone, and is shared between Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire, whose boundaries meet on its south-western flank at Three Shire Heads on the River Dane.
Five rivers — the Dove, Manifold, Dane, Wye and Goyt — rise on the moor, with Axe Edge itself on the south-eastern side near the source of the Dove. The moor also boasted England's second-highest pub, the Cat and Fiddle Inn, which shut in 2015 and later reopened as a distillery.

Finding the summit
trig point is built on mound of rocks that is constructed.
The recorded summit point is trig point. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

Which hill this one belongs to
Axe Edge Moor is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Shining Tor (559 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 468 m.
Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
