About Stob Coire a' Chairn

Stob Coire a' Chairn sits 3.5 kilometres north of Kinlochleven in the Mamores, and its Gaelic name means peak of the corrie of the cairn. It is one of the less assertive of the ten Mamores Munros, and for years the Ordnance Survey did not name it at all.

Its position matters more than its profile. Three ridges radiate from the summit to other Munros, north to An Gearanach, southeast to Na Gruagaichean and southwest to Am Bodach, making it arguably the most central peak in the range. It forms part of the Ring of Steall, widely rated among Scotland's finest ridge walks, alongside An Gearanach, Am Bodach and Sgurr a' Mhaim.

The southern flank falls into the wide Coire na Ba, drained by the Allt Coire na Ba down to the River Leven at Kinlochleven, and carrying a well-graded stalkers path onto the Mamores ridge.
