About Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe

One of the Five Sisters of Kintail, Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe is also recorded as Sgurr nan Cisteachan Dubha. It rises above the north side of Glen Shiel in the Northwest Highlands, some 27 kilometres south-east of Kyle of Lochalsh, and at 1,027 metres it qualifies as a Munro.

Its place in the Five Sisters chain means it is normally encountered as part of that ridge rather than as a separate objective.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

adjacent rocks of similar height to cairn base; rock on knoll 70m W is lower.

The recorded summit point is large well built cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

The Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe group

One other listed summit sits in the same prominence group, with Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe as the independent hill at its head.

Sgurr nan Spainteach 990 m 65 m

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
