About Sgurr na Ciche
Sgurr na Ciche takes its Gaelic name from its shape, 'pap' or 'conical hilltop', and that cone is what makes it recognisable from far off, picked out in views from hills as distant as Carn Eige and Ben Nevis. It stands on the edge of Knoydart in the Rough Bounds, in the Northwest Highlands.
Ladhar Bheinn and The Saddle are near neighbours, but deep ground separates them, and the resulting prominence is the 25th highest in Britain. The hill can be reached from the head of Loch Nevis on the south side of Knoydart along the ridge of Druim a' Ghoirtein, though the remoteness of the peninsula means it is more often taken as part of a round from the head of Glen Dessarry that also includes Garbh Chioch Mhor and Sgurr nan Coireachan. It is the wettest place in the United Kingdom, averaging some 5,000 mm of rain a year.
