About Sgor an Lochain Uaine

The name means 'peak of the little green lake', taken from An Lochan Uaine in the corrie on its north-east side. Sgòr an Lochain Uaine sits in the western Cairngorms massif between Braeriach and Cairn Toul, looking over An Garbh Choire and the Lairig Ghru, and by some reckonings it is the fifth-highest mountain in Scotland and the UK.

It only became a Munro in its own right with the Scottish Mountaineering Club's 1997 revision of the tables, and it is normally taken in with neighbours — Cairn Toul and The Devil's Point from the south, or over Braeriach from the north. It also carries the alternative name The Angel's Peak, said to have been coined in the 19th century by Alexander Copland of the Cairngorm Club as a counterpoint to the nearby Devil's Point.
