About Mwdwl-eithin
Mwdwl-eithin is the highest point of the Denbigh Moors (Mynydd Hiraethog) in North Wales, a gently rising moorland hill of 532 metres about ten miles east of Betws-y-Coed. On the summit are a trig point and a ruined building that still offers shelter in a storm, with a large raised stone cairn a few metres away.
The whole area is underlain by Silurian mudstone and was extensively glaciated during the last British glaciation; today it is very wet moorland dominated by heather and rushes. Three of the surrounding valleys and hollows hold drinking-water reservoirs — Llyn Alwen, Llyn Aled and the Alwen Reservoir — and there have been repeated proposals to build a wind farm on the hill.

Finding the summit
base of trig point is higher than base of cairn 30m S at SH 91717 54030.
The recorded summit point is trig point. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

The Mwdwl-eithin group
3 other listed summits sit in the same prominence group, with Mwdwl-eithin as the independent hill at its head.
| Summit | Height | Drop |
|---|---|---|
| Marial Gwyn | 520 m | 140 m |
| Gorsedd Bran | 518 m | 120 m |
| Craig Bron-banog | 502 m | 100 m |
Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
