About Moel Famau

Moel Famau is the highest hill in the Clwydian Range and the county top of Flintshire, both historic and current, sitting on the boundary with Denbighshire. It gives its name to a country park and has been within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since 1985, with several well-preserved Iron Age hill forts around it.

A northern stretch of the Offa's Dyke Path, one of the busiest of the UK's National Trails, runs over the summit and the Jubilee Tower, and Loggerheads Country Park is nearby. It is sometimes called the highest point in north-east Wales, but Cadair Berwyn holds that title, and within the extended Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB it ranks fourth, below Moel y Gamelin and Moel Fferna.

The recorded summit point is ground by wall on N corner of tower. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
