Green Lowther

About Green Lowther

Green Lowther is the highest point of the Lowther Hills in the Southern Uplands, lying in Lanarkshire east of Sanquhar. A telecommunications mast and transmitter station occupy the summit, where a microwave array once stood.

The private service road that climbs neighbouring Lowther Hill carries on over Green Trough to the top here. It is the second highest paved road in Britain after Great Dun Fell in the Pennines, and the highest road of any sort in Scotland.
