Gleouraich

About Gleouraich

Gleouraich, Gleadhraich in Gaelic, stands north of Loch Quoich in the north-western Highlands and reaches 1,035 metres. Its two sides could hardly be less alike: the southern slopes are gentle and grassy, while the north face is steep and dark, broken into a tangle of ridges and corries.

A high ridge links Gleouraich to its neighbour Spidean Mialach, and the pair are usually taken together from the south, where a network of stalkers' paths runs onto the hill.

The Gleouraich group

One other listed summit sits in the same prominence group, with Gleouraich as the independent hill at its head.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
