About Bowbeat Hill

Bowbeat Hill is one of the Moorfoot Hills, in the Southern Uplands. It has given its name to the Bowbeat Onshore Wind Farm, built on the hill and commissioned in 2003, whose 24 turbines generate 31.2 MW.

At 626 m it is a Donald, and is usually taken in alongside neighbouring hills on rounds starting from Gladhouse Reservoir to the north.

Which hill this one belongs to

Bowbeat Hill is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Blackhope Scar (652 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 548 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
