About Blackhope Scar

Second only to Windlestraw Law among the Moorfoot Hills, Blackhope Scar lies north-east of Peebles in the Southern Uplands. It is rough, boggy moorland ground, and the usual approach is from Gladhouse Reservoir. The summit repays the walk with a wide outlook. Its list credentials include Graham, Donald and Marilyn, along with county top status.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

trig point is at NT 31527 48333 and 0.4m lower.

The recorded summit point is no feature 20m WSW of trig point. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

The Blackhope Scar group

3 other listed summits sit in the same prominence group, with Blackhope Scar as the independent hill at its head.

Whitehope Law 623 m 66 m

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
