Black Law

About Black Law

Black Law is part of the Manor Hills in the Southern Uplands, and is among the more remote Donalds. It does not fit neatly into a round with its neighbours, and rough ground has to be crossed to reach the top.

It is commonly taken as an extension of the Dun Rig Horseshoe to the north-east, or approached from Megget Reservoir to the south, or from the Manor Valley.

Black Law is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Dun Rig (744 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 595 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
