About Bidean nam Bian

Bidean nam Bian, 'peak of the mountains', tops the group of hills lying between Glen Coe to the north and Glen Etive to the south, and is the highest point in Argyll. It is a complicated mountain of many ridges and subsidiary summits, one of which, Stob Coire Sgreamhach, counts as a Munro in its own right.

Surveyor's note

top 200m WNW at NN141542 is lower.

The recorded summit point is cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

The Bidean nam Bian group

5 other listed summits sit in the same prominence group, with Bidean nam Bian as the independent hill at its head.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
