About Ben Venue
Ben Venue takes its name from Gaelic words meaning 'the miniature mountain'. It rises in the Trossachs, its summit roughly two kilometres south-west of the pier at the southern end of Loch Katrine, and there are two tops a short distance apart.
Bealach nam Bo, the 'pass of the cattle', lies at the foot of the hill near the shore of Loch Katrine, named from the days when Highland cattle raiders drove stolen herds through it. Approaches are commonly made from the Ledard farm track at Loch Ard by way of the Beinn an Fhogharaidh ridge, or from the car park at the head of Loch Achray, each around 5 km. Forestry signage warns against going directly to or from Loch Katrine, where the slopes are very steep and broken by cliffs, though indistinct paths do exist there.
