About Ben Chonzie

Ben Chonzie, also written Ben-y-Hone, rises eleven kilometres northwest of Crieff in the Breadalbane country and tops out at 931 metres. It is the highest ground in a wide sweep of moorland and rounded hills between Loch Earn and Loch Tay, and with a broad flat summit and few distinguishing features it is often named among Scotland's least interesting Munros.

Wildlife is part of the attraction. Mountain hares (Lepus timidus scoticus) frequent the plateau and can be spotted by quiet walkers, while buzzards and other raptors patrol the approaches and frogs and newts occupy the pools beside the vehicle track running up the eastern side of the loch.

Invergeldie, near Comrie to the southwest, is the most-used start. Glen Turret to the southeast gives a longer alternative through more varied scenery, with an array of buttresses and cliffs that can be taken on directly or passed on either side.
