About Beinn Eighe - Spidean Coire nan Clach

Spidean Coire nan Clach is the lower of the two Munro summits on Beinn Eighe, the Torridon massif whose name means "file mountain"; the other is Ruadh-stac Mòr at 1,010 m. Rather than a single peak, Beinn Eighe is a long ridge throwing out numerous spurs and tops, of which this is one.

A cap of Cambrian basal quartzite, unusual among the hills hereabouts, gives the summits their pale colouring. The complex layout of the massif draws both hillwalkers and climbers, and the national nature reserve on the northern side, south of Loch Maree, opens the area up to other visitors as well.
