About Aonach Mor

Aonach Mòr stands about three kilometres north-east of Ben Nevis on the south side of Glen Spean, near Fort William, and is joined by a high bealach to Aonach Beag immediately south.

The Gaelic names invite confusion: 'big ridge' here, 'small ridge' there, yet Aonach Mòr's summit is 13 m lower than its neighbour's. The distinction is one of mass as seen from the glen rather than height. The shortest approach uses the gondola to the Snowgoose Terminal at 650 m; the older line of ascent comes up from Glen Nevis to the south, usually combined with Aonach Beag.
