A' Mharconaich stands near Dalwhinnie among the group of hills east of Loch Ericht and west of the A9 and the Pass of Drumochter, known collectively as the Drumochter Hills.

It falls just inside the Cairngorms National Park boundary, though it is not part of the Cairngorm massif itself.
