Hart Fell

About Hart Fell

Hart Fell belongs to the Moffat Hills in the Southern Uplands, north of Moffat and astride the boundary between Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders. Broad and rolling, it can be picked out from the M74 to the west, from parts of Dumfries and from ranges to the east.

Three sides of the hill slope gently, but the east ridge is steep and craggy and holds a deep corrie called Blackhope. Ascents commonly come up the southern ridge over Swatte Fell, and the round can be extended into the Hart Fell Horseshoe, a full circuit of Blackhope finishing over Saddle Yoke.
