About Gwaunceste Hill
Gwaunceste Hill (Welsh: Bryn Gwaun-cest) is a 542-metre hill in Powys, east Wales, within the communities of Gladestry and Glascwm — around four kilometres east of the village of Hundred House and two kilometres north of the hamlet of Glascwm.
The River Arrow's headwaters gather on the hill's eastern slopes, while the western slopes drain into the River Edw, a tributary of the River Wye. Two subsidiary tops, to the south-east and south-west, are both known as Little Hill.

The Gwaunceste Hill group
3 other listed summits sit in the same prominence group, with Gwaunceste Hill as the independent hill at its head.
| Summit | Height | Drop |
|---|---|---|
| Llanfihangel Hill | 532 m | 145 m |
| Glascwm Hill | 522 m | 130 m |
| Red Hill | 510 m | 77 m |
Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
