About Carn Dearg

Remoteness is the defining feature of this Carn Dearg. Standing in Corrour Forest in the Grampians, on the boundary between Highland and Perthshire, it looks out over Loch Ossian and lies northeast of Rannoch Moor.

There is no road or settlement anywhere near it, and walkers generally arrive by train, using either Corrour or Rannoch station. The summit reaches 941 metres.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

outcrop 8m NE of cairn is higher than base of cairn.

The recorded summit point is tall cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
