About Carn Bhac

It is one of the quieter hills in this part of the Cairngorms and offers a good chance of solitude. Ascents usually begin at Inverey.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

shelter cairn is at NO 05099 83246.

The recorded summit point is small cairn 30m S of large shelter cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

The Carn Bhac group

One other listed summit sits in the same prominence group, with Carn Bhac as the independent hill at its head.

Listed summits in the Carn Bhac prominence group
SummitHeightDrop
Carn Bhac SW Top 918 m 25 m

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
