About Ben More Assynt South Top
Ben More Assynt South Top is a 959.3-metre subsidiary summit of Ben More Assynt, whose name translates as 'big mountain of Assynt'. At 998 metres the parent mountain is the highest point in Sutherland, rising in the far north-west of Scotland about 30 kilometres north-north-east of Ullapool; the Top is classified as a Munro Top, a Simm and a Murdo.
Ben More Assynt sits in the east of Assynt, apart from the area's better-known but lower mountains such as Suilven, and is hidden from the A837 road by the neighbouring Munro of Conival, so the best views of it come from nearby summits. Its upper slopes are capped with light-coloured quartzite boulders that lend the mountain a distinctive appearance, and more than 90 square kilometres of surrounding land have been declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest for their geological interest and rare plant species.

Which hill this one belongs to
Ben More Assynt South Top is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Ben More Assynt (999 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 913 m.
Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
